What Can You Do at Home?
Brush Daily – Brushing teeth is the easiest way to keep them clean and healthy. Getting your children to brush their teeth daily is not always easy! Ideally your child should brush their teeth twice a day and we have a few tips to make brush time a little easier.
- Make teeth brushing fun. You can purchase toothbrushes that have fun characters on them from movies or TV shows. There are also brushes that have timers or some that play a tune to make the two minutes go quickly. You could also try different flavours of toothpaste like strawberry.
- Your child will find brushing teeth easier if it is part of their routine. So, set up a time every day for teeth brushing. Eventually your child will know that in the morning and before bed that it is time to brush their teeth.
- Try and brush your teeth with your child. This way your child can see that is a normal part of the daily routine and it will help them learn how to do it themselves.
Floss – Flossing is an important part of preventive treatment. Floss cleans in-between teeth where the brush can’t reach. To make flossing easier for your child you could try timing them for fun or maybe have a reward system such as a sticker chart.
Eat a Balanced Diet – Sugar can cause tooth decay and more. So, try and cut down your child’s sugar intake and encourage your children to drink water and eat more fruit and vegetables. This way the teeth will get the right vitamins and nutrients to keep them healthy.
Visit Your Dentist – A dentist can spot any issues early so it is important to attend appointments. Any issues can be fixed quickly for the best dental health. Regular dental visits can keep your child’s teeth healthy for years to come.
