Orthodontic TADs in Parramatta

At Painfree Dentistry, we strive to provide our patients with modern and convenient dentistry options, including when it comes to straightening teeth with orthodontics. We offer TADs at our Parramatta dental clinic to improve treatment outcomes and provide more precise treatment.

What Are Orthodontic TADs?

TAD stands for Temporary Anchorage Device, and as the name suggests, they are a temporary part of orthodontic treatment designed to help with tooth movement. You can think of TADs as tiny dental implant-like devices implanted into the jawbones. They are used to guide the movement of teeth while leaving teeth that don’t need to be moved in place. Because TADs provide an anchor point for tooth movement, they allow for more precise and efficient tooth movement without the need to wear elastics, headgear or even to avoid oral surgery. These small devices make a positive impact on orthodontic treatment for our patients.

How Are TADs Placed?

Once an orthodontic treatment plan is determined and the need for TADs is confirmed, tiny devices will be surgically placed in the jawbone and allowed to heal before attached to the braces. TADs usually remain in place for several months or longer during orthodontic treatment.

While TADs require minor surgery, it is not a particularly painful procedure, and our skilled team will always ensure your comfort during any procedure. We numb the area with local anaesthesia. While minor discomfort can sometimes occur during the healing process, it is generally easy to manage with store-bought pain relievers. Your dentist will speak to you about what to expect from TADs surgery and how to care for your devices.

What Are the Advantages of Using Orhtodontic TADs?

Here are some of the benefits that orthodontic TADs provide our patients.
Precision of Movement
TADs allow us to move certain teeth in a more efficient manner, eliminating the need to treat those that don't require movement.
Potentially Shortens Treatment
Due to their precise movements, TADs may potentially reduce orthodontic treatment times.
Reduces the Need for Head Gear
TADs can eliminate the need for using orthodontic appliances like headgear or elastics.

Keeping TADs Clean during Orthodontics

You can keep TADs clean with regular brushing and flossing daily. You can also use an antibacterial rinse to promote healthy, clean surgical areas for your TADs. You can use a cotton swab to apply the antibacterial agent to your TADs, or just brush the area gently using an ultra-soft toothbrush.
