Will my tooth need a root canal after trauma, even if it was replanted?

The answer varies according to each patient's needs. If your tooth was replanted due to being knocked out, it may need root canal therapy to complete the procedure.

A root canal after tooth trauma may be needed if it was fully knocked out (avulsed) or if it was pushed deep into the socket. Our dentists would perform the root canal within one to two weeks after initial treatment, if it's needed.

A root canal may not be needed for a partially dislodged tooth or for a child's tooth whose pulp is still capable of healing on its own.

If you knock your tooth out, time is of the essence for treating it, and we have the best chance of saving it the sooner we can start treatment.

Does Root Canal Treatment Hurt?

While root canals have received a bad reputation in the past for being painful, this was only because the procedure was associated with the pain caused by a tooth infection. A root canal procedure actually alleviates pain and eliminates infection.

Modern dentistry has made root canal treatment comfortable, efficient, and pain-free. Your emergency dentist in Parramatta also offers options for sedation dentistry if you're feeling anxious about your root canal procedure.
